The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
Denzil Washington & John Travolta, who nail their parts perfectly. Denzil Washington as the subway dispatcher shows why he is regarded as one of the best actors in Holywood. Seems he is the favorite actor of the Director Tony Scott. This is the fourth film Washington has done for the director.
Unlike the previous movies by the same director, this time actual action takes a back seat. More prominence is given to the two actors interaction with each other over the phone as the negotiator & the hostage taker. This is where Denzil Washington excels. He perfectly captures the emotions of the under pressure train dispatcher, who is suddenly find himself as the negotiator in a hostage situation. We see him as the man with few skeletons in his closet, the little imperfections & mannerism are skillfully portrayed & captured. Travolta does his usual thing, which he does when doing action movies, trying to be a cool bad guy with a messed up sense of humor. While it’s not bad, it could have been better.
Film does have some action scenes with some car crashes & the inevitable shootings at the end, which doesn’t hurt the flow of the film. All in all it was a good movie everything falling in to place to make it an good & interesting movie.
